CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu’s Abhinav Mukund and S Badrinath made mince meat of the stingless Railway attack on the second day of the Ranji Elite A Group match at the IIT-Chemplast ground here on Thursday.
Resuming from 26 for 1 Tamil Nadu were 244 for 2 at close from 87 overs when bad light stopped play. With almost a day gone due to rain and with the wicket losing its sting after a while it was hard day out for the visitors. Staying motivated was the key but the Railway bowlers after a while gave way as they found it difficult to penetrate through the defence of Badri and Abhinav.
Badri remained unconquered on 106 ( 262b, 327m 15×4), while Abhinav Mukund was with his pads on with 108 (242b, 378mts, 13×4). The duo raised 208 runs for the third wicket in 75.4 overs.
Both complimented each other with their delightful stokeplay, ran between the wickets with great understanding and forged a good partnership.
With the Railways bowlers adopting a negative line after a while the duo were watchful and were better in shot selection.
“It was a good day for us, I enjoyed my outing. Both of us (Badri-Abhinav) have good understanding and this helped in our partnership,” said Badrinath after his chanceless 25th first class hundred.
On the charge that TN could have scored 30-40 more runs at close. “Yes we could have added 30 odd runs, but you see the wicket was slow hampering stroke play. Plus the outfield was slow,” added Badri.
