Despite assurances from the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC), some of the Australian athletes are closely monitoring the security situation in Delhi and are even contemplating to pull out from the Oct 3-14 Games.

Runner Tamsyn Lewis said Saturday that she is keeping a close track on the developments in Delhi and might change her decision to go.

‘As an athlete heading into the Games, I’m definitely monitoring the situation. Your life is definitely more important,’ Lewis was quoted as saying by the Herald Sun.

Shot-putter Scott Martin said terror threat is a concern for all the athletes.

The head of the Australian Commonwealth Games Association, Perry Crosswhite reiterated his stand on the safety of athletes.

‘My No. 1 priority is the safety of our athletes. We wouldn’t be going there if there was any risk to our athletes and that changes every day,’ said Crosswhite.

Australian chef de mission Steve Moneghetti said the team is in regular touch with the government.

‘If they tell us we don’t go, we don’t go,’ said Moneghetti.

Australia is planning to send 550 athletes and officials for the Commonwealth Games.
