BSNL gives 1k cellphones to Phagi villagers

JAIPUR: At a time when buying a new phone no longer requires a second thought, holding a new phone, Prithvi Raj Gujjar was an elated boy.
The discussion was as to who would carry the phone – his mother who tills three bighas land for survival or Gujjar a class 11 student at Phagi. Forty km from Jaipur as a part of a pilot project to provide mobile connectivity to the BPL families, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd ( BSNL) provided 1,000 free mobile phones with SIM at Phagi town in Ajmer district.
Rs 12.85 lakh was spent to implement this scheme. The purpose of this scheme is to bring those families in the main stream of society who were so far deprived of having telecom facilities because of poverty.
