Just 300 close friends and family scored an invite to the intimate post wedding bash of newly wed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate, at the Buckingham Palace on Friday.

According to Us Weekly exclusive details, the bride and groom began the night with their romantic first dance: A cover of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ by pop singer Ellie Goulding. The up-and-coming star followed up the classic ballad of devotion with her own up-tempo hit, “Starry Eyed” — which got the guests dancing!

“The atmosphere was incredible. It is a night I’ll never forget,” said Goulding.

When it was time to chow down, the menu included a crab starter, a beef filet main dish and a trio of desserts, including chocolate pudding, ice cream and brandy, and a blackberry-raspberry concoction.

“The speeches were very emotional,” one female guest said.

Man of Honour Prince Harry”s speech for his big brother was a highlight.

According to another guest, frequent jokester Harry took pains not to embarrass his brother. After thanking his father Prince Charles, stepmother Duchess Camilla and grandmother Queen Elizabeth, Harry paid touching tribute to their late mother Princess Diana who passed away at age 36 in 1997.

Harry noted that their late mom inspired them to become the men they are — and that he sees so much of Diana in William.

Kate- whom Harry likened to a sister – got teary, according to a witness.

When the bash was officially over at 2 a.m., departing guests were given two chocolate cupcakes featuring Mario Testino”s iconic shot of the happy couple on top. Before boarding carriages off the palace grounds, the revelers enjoyed a spectacular fireworks display.

“We had a fantastic time!” one guest added.

Her posters made people freeze in their tracks. Her movies were seen again and again. But Elizabeth Taylor will be remembered by Indians as much as a woman who lived life on her own terms as an actress of striking beauty and talent.

Be it her many marriages, her phenomenal jewellery collection or her zest for life, she was the original Hollywood diva.

With the film legend passing away in Los Angeles at the age of 79 Wednesday, many Indians in showbiz and fashion recall being smitten by her arched dark eyebrows, piercing green eyes and oomph factor in the early 1960s.

“For me, she defined cinema and cinematic beauty. When I was a kid, people used to be very attracted to English films. We used to be in awe of her looks. I remember stopping for a glance at her poster,” filmmaker Rohan Sippy told. “Her presence will certainly be missed a lot.”

Her portrayal of a promiscuous woman in ” Butterfield 8″ (1960) and an alcoholic woman trapped in a vicious marriage in “Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf” (1966) won her Oscars.

But perhaps her most famous role in India remained ” Cleopatra” in 1961 – on the sets of which she met and fell in love with Richard Burton. Taylor was married eight times, including the two marriages to Burton.

“It was with a sense of awe that I watched ‘Cleopatra’ because it opened up a whole new world for me, particularly on gender issues. At that time in India, a woman’s place was generally regarded as at home even though my own mother had a full time job,” said journalist V. Romesh Kumar who saw “Cleopatra” at the age of 11.

“The fact that a woman could be a queen and a powerful one at that, able to exercise her own judgement was quite a revelation – and Taylor portrayed this forcefully.”

Her wide eyes captivated many men.

“We have always perceived her as a rare personality… a lady who thinks from the heart…, and you can see it in her decisions,” Jai of designer duo Parvesh-Jai told.

“Like getting married again and again… falling in love again and again…, but nothing could stop her. She was a person who did what she felt was right,” he added.

Jai feels at times, her love life overshadowed her work as an actress, although it reinforced her stardom and celebrity status.

Her style statement is still an inspiration for fashion designers.

“I loved her bold and individualistic style statement. Her death indeed comes as a shock. The loss will be irreparable to the world of art and cinema. She was truly someone who owned the room once she walked into one! Truly an inspiration for us,” said designer Nida Mahmood.

Designer Arpan Vohra added: “It’s really sad to bid goodbye to one of the most iconic glamorous beauties in Hollywood who in every way, be it with the movies or her personal life, made people talk about her.

“Her unmatched style statement of wearing jewels, and it is believed she had one of the world’s best collections, hardly comes as a surprise because she used to flaunt them at all occasions,” he said.

After reigning in Hollywood industry for over two decades, major movie roles started to dry up in the 1980s, although she later appeared as a guest star on ” The Simpsons” and several TV movies.

In her later years it was her charity work for AIDS with the establishment of the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and her friendship with late popstar Michael Jackson that kept her in the news.

She also launched lucrative perfume and jewellery lines, pioneering merchandising efforts by Hollywood stars.

Her life was also marred by health problems, many of which were attributed to a horse fall she suffered while filming “National Velvet”. She also famously battled addictions to alcohol and drugs.

For the young southern actor Rana Daggubati, who is making his Bollywood debut with “Dum Maro Dum”, her screen persona was very strong.

“Elizabeth Taylor was one of those actresses who had a very powerful hold on people here in India. Not only on-screen but her off-screen persona was really strong too. I have followed quite a lot of films of her,” he said.

Shah Rukh Khan has rarely, if ever, been at a loss of words. His wit has never failed him either, definitely not on a public platform but just this once, either King Khan decided to take a backseat and be a perfect host to guest of honour Hugh Jackman, or the over six-foot 43-year-old Australian actor, twice voted the sexists man alive, just clean bowled him.

“I have been told that there is going to be a sequel to My Name Is Khan and I am going to star in it. It’s going to be called, My Name is Jackman, And I Am Not a Tourist,” said the man whose ready wit and sense of humour had the packed crowds at the Ficci Frames 2011 closing ceremony in Mumbai, in splits from the word go.

Whether it was Australia’s quarter final loss to India in the World Cup or his quip about how he was going to be playing for SRK’s IPL team KKR, or how he wished he could do a Bollywood film, adding that it was a hint to Karan Johar or how the “Bollywood style” audio visual showing him gyrating to “I am a Disco Dancer…” was going to “destroy his career”, Hugh Jackman hit only sixers.

On his first visit to India, the actor acknowledged the growing popularity of Hollywood films internationally, citing the example of how his film Australia had grossed only $50 million in the US while worldwide collections totalled $200. Figures, that the actor emphasised would have been unheard of a decade ago. This, of course, was a polite retort to SRK’s comment that the Hollywood viewership is not as great in India when compared to other cities across the world.

But SRK did also play the perfect host-he emphasised not only to the audience but also to Jackman that not only was his son Aryan, but also daughter Suhana, wife Gauri and he himself “huge fans of Jackman, specially X-Men and Wolverine”. In a quip to Jackman’s MNIK sequel, SRK said Jackman had promised him a role in the next X-Men.

Apart from the X-Men series , Jackman is known for essaying the lead roles in Kate & Leopold , Van Helsing , The Prestige and Australia. In fact, Jackman, who started his career with stage musicals, is a singer and dancer. Being a superhero is not easy. In fact, it’s very hard work as both superstars discussed.

“How difficult is it to perform when you wear a superhero suit in X-Men? In fact, how did you manage to go to the loo?” SRK asked Jackman. Getting off the stage, wriggling around, the six-footer acted out exactly how difficult it was!! Expectedly Jackman asked SRK how he managed the same in RA One? Getting up, SRK said, “I just stand up and shake my leg!”

London: Prince Charles wants to build an eco-friendly shanty town near Kolkata or Bangalore for 15,000 poor Indians, inspired by the one he saw in Oscar-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, a media report said.

The multi-million-pound venture plan includes schools, shops and 3,000 homes in a tiny area the size of 14 football pitches, the ‘Daily Mail’ reported.

In fact, the heir to the British throne plans to turn a 25-acre swathe of Indian wasteland on the outskirts of either Kolkata or Bangalore into a “mini oasis in the desert”, to be modelled on Poundbury, the Dorset model village that has been Prince Charles’s 30-year pet project.

“When you enter (shanty town) what looks from the outside like an immense mound of plastic and rubbish, you immediately come upon an intricate network of streets with miniature shops, houses and workshops, each one made out of any material that comes to hand.

“We have a great deal to learn about how complex systems can self-organise to create a harmonious whole,” the newspaper quoted the Prince as saying.

Prince Charles’ charity Foundation for the Built Environment, which will open its first overseas office in Mumbai this year, will undertake the project in India.

Zurich: Lionel Messi’s mesmerizing performances for Barcelona outweighed a disappointing World Cup, ensuring the Argentina forward was named the world’s best player of 2010.

Messi won the FIFA award for a second straight year yesterday, finishing ahead of Barcelona teammates Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez.

“It’s a very special day for me,” Messi said through a translator on receiving the award at a gala ceremony in FIFA’s home city.

The 23-year-old Messi amassed 58 goals last year for an exciting Barcelona team which retained the Spanish league title and leads the standings this season. However, he failed to score in South Africa as Argentina exited in the quarterfinals. Iniesta and Xavi, by comparison, starred for eventual winner Spain.

“I didn’t expect to win it today,” Messi said. “Already it’s a source of happiness to be here with my friends and even more to win it.”

Messi obtained 22.65 percent of the votes cast by coaches and captains of national teams plus invited journalists. The original shortlist featured 23 players. Andres Iniesta finished second with 17.36 percent and Xavi received 16.48 percent to finish third for the second straight year.

All three candidates honed their craft at Barcelona’s celebrated La Masia youth academy.

Barcelona has now provided eight winners in the 20-year history of the FIFA honor. Messi follows former Brazil internationals Romario (1994), Ronaldo (1996 and ’97), Rivaldo (1999) and Ronaldinho (2004 and ’05).

The award was renamed this year after FIFA merged its world player award with the Ballon d’Or trophy, which had been presented to the best player in Europe by France Football magazine

Washington:- Burlesque beauty Dita Von Teese is all set to make her small screen debut. She is performing her signature sultry champagne glass dance on the January 20 episode ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’.

“It’s great because it’s a big episode, and I play my very good friend Eric Szmanda’s love interest,” Fox News quoted Von Teese as telling BlackBook magazine. “Originally, I was just going to make a small cameo of some kind, but now I play three different characters! It’s a great challenge for me, much different than creating and performing burlesque shows.”

Her ‘CSI’ co-stars were already familiar with Von Teese’s work. “Most of the cast and crew have seen my burlesque show, and they’re really a great team, and are all very encouraging. I couldn’t ask for a better television debut, especially on such a great show, and there’s a moment where viewers get to see a glimpse of my actual burlesque show,” she said.

Lindsay Lohan, who has checked out of rehab, could be charged with battery for an incident at the Betty Ford Centre.

US Sheriff investigators have found that the actress violated her probation during an alleged altercation with a technician at the rehab last month.

Now, they are considering charging her with battery for the incident that occurred on December 12, reports the Telegraph.

Investigation details will be sent to the Los Angeles County Probation Department this week, said Riverside sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Borja.

A Beverly Hills judge has said Lohan will be jailed if she violates probation.

The troubled actress had returned to the drug dependency centre after curfew and allegedly refused rehab worker Dawn Holland’s request to take a breath test.

Lohan is accused of pushing Holland, who then dialled police, and ripping the phone away and injuring Holland’s wrist.

London: It looks like Reese Witherspoon is ready to say ‘I do’ again. The actress and her Hollywood agent boyfriend Jim Toth are now engaged, reports the Daily Mail. “They are engaged and are extremely happy,” her representative told Us Weekly.

The couple, who have been dating for almost a year, went public with their romance in March shortly after Witherspoon’s split from Jake Gyllenhaal. The 34-year-old actress has two children – Ava, 10, and 6-year-old Deacon – with her former husband Ryan Phillippe. The pair split in 2008 after seven years of marriage.

According to sources, Toth has ‘bonded’ with Witherspoon’s children. Whispers of an impending engagement began circulating earlier this month after Toth was spotted making the rounds at several high-profile jewellers in Los Angeles, including Harry Winston.

London: The book The Way Back, which tells of a group of prisoners who escape a Soviet gulag and trek 4,500 miles to freedom, has landed in controversy. The reason for the controversy is that some believe the accounts given in the book, on which an upcoming drama film is based, are true while others feel it is all fiction.

“Controversy does surround the question of whether the man who wrote the book was on the whole walk,” Sky News quoted director Peter Weir as saying. “He was certainly a prisoner, so I decided to fictionalise it, change the title, re-name the characters and then draw on the experiences of others who’d been in the gulags,” he said.

The book first appeared in 1956, and right from the start, no one could find information to prove or disprove whether the author, Slavomir Rawicz’s account really happened. Weir’s pursuit of the truth took him to London, Moscow and Siberia. “I wanted everything that was on the film, all the dialogue, everything sourced back to either an account in person or a book, so it would be deeply true,” he revealed.

The film, which follows the escapees across some of the world’s most inhospitable terrain, has actors Jim Sturgess, Colin Farrell, Ed Harris and 16-year-old Saoirse Ronan starring in it.

London: Hugh Hefner may be 84 years old now but he knows how to bounce back in love, and announced that he is set to get married again. The Playboy founder announced on Twitter his engagement to 24-year-old girlfriend and December 2009 Playmate Crystal Harris.

Hefner, married twice before, told his followers on Christmas Day that Harris burst into tears when he presented her with an engagement ring on Christmas Eve. “After the movie tonight, Crystal and I exchanged gifts. I gave Crystal a ring. A truly memorable Christmas Eve,” he wrote. “When I gave Crystal the ring, she burst into tears. This is the happiest Christmas weekend in memory,” he added.

And to make it absolutely clear, Hefner later tweeted again, adding: “Yes, the ring I gave Crystal is an engagement ring. I didn’t mean to make a mystery out of it. A very merry Christmas to all.” Harris, who met Hefner on Halloween in 2008, started dating him in January 2009.

Hefner, who founded Playboy in 1953 with Marilyn Monroe as his first cover girl, has been married twice before. He first wed Mildred Williams in 1949, but they divorced in 1959. Earlier this year, he was divorced from his second wife and former Playboy Playmate Kimberly Conrad. They married in 1989.
