Pune: The Pune Rural Police have prepared a sketch of the suspect who allegedly raped a 29-year-old MNC executive at Sahara Amby Valley resort at Lonavla on December 11. The woman from Mumbai was at the resort attending a company conference.

The police have formed four squads to conduct the investigation and are trying to verify the CCTV footage installed in the resort. According to the police, the suspect is 5’5 with broad shoulders and is “Hindi speaking”.

“It appears that the suspect pulled out the fuse before committing the crime. She was able to make out the suspect’s face which was illuminated by the outside light as he left the room,” said the police.

A statement issued by Sahara Amby Valley said that the alleged rape incident appears to be an internal matter. “We wish the private firm had allowed our personnel to investigate. They have raised the issue after two days and we are fully cooperating,” said the statement.

MUMBAI: Actor Raja Chaudhary was again found in the middle of a controversy on Friday when he reportedly assaulted his girlfriend, a small-time model Shradha Sharma, at his Oshiwara residence.

According to the Oshiwara police, Sharma was severely beaten up and is being treated at Sujoy Hospital in Andheri. Senior inspector D Rupwate of the Oshiwara police confirmed the incident. Rupwate said that the incident occurred due to some personal problems between the two. ”

However, no one had come forward to lodge a formal complaint,” said Rupwate.

The complaint was not filed by Sharma till the time of going to press.

Dharamshala: A local court has reserved its order in the 2009 ragging-to-death case of medical student Aman Kachru and fixed November 11 for pronouncing the verdict.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Purinder Vaidya heard the arguments of prosecution and defence and said the judgement would be delivered on November 11.

Nineteen-year-old Aman, a student of Rajendra Prasad Medical College and Hospital in Tanda, about 15 km from Dharamshala, died on March 8, 2009, after being allegedly ragged by final-year students – Ajay Verma, Naveen Verma, Abhinav Verma and Mukul Sharma.

Prosecution led by senior public prosecutor Jiwan Lal Sharma pleaded that Aman was brutally beaten up under the garb of ragging by his four seniors and succumbed to his injuries. But defence counsel Abhimanyu Chopra, who concluded his arguments on Friday, contended that the deceased was a heart patient and a sudden cardiac arrest could have caused his death.

Sharma said the court has recorded the statement of 38 witnesses, comprising doctors, police personnel and Aman’s father Rajendra Kachru during the trial.

Rajendra Kachru, appearing in court for the first time in the case on August 28 this year, had said his son spoke to him in detail about the incident of ragging that occurred in the college.

“Aman even told me that he had given in writing a complaint to college authorities regarding the (ragging) incident… Three to four hours after I got the phone call from Aman, somebody informed me on telephone from the college that he had passed away,” he told the court.

The prosecution lawyer said that the father’s deposition was important as Ashish Saklani, the roommate of Aman, in court recorded his statement saying that the deceased spoke at length with his father about the ragging incident.

The court also re-examined two doctors – Harjeet Pal Singh of the ENT (ear, nose and throat) department, and DP Swami, assistant professor of forensic medicine department of the hospital – who are related to this case.

On July 17, the fast track court had granted bail to all four accused in the case, but taking cognisance of the media reports, the Himachal Pradesh High court had cancelled the bail of the accused .

The accused students Ajay Verma, Naveen Verma, Abhinav Verma and Mukul Sharma surrendered before the additional and session court on the direction of the High Court.

Mumbai: In a horrific incident of road rage in Mumbai, an auto rickshaw driver set a policeman on fire as he was pulled up for not carrying proper papers.

The incident took place on Wednesday in Mumbai’s Vasai area.

According to eyewitnesses, at around 7 in the evening, traffic constable Anil Aitiwadekar had stopped auto rickshaw driver Mahendra Kevat and asked for his papers. Kevat, who couldn’t produce the required documents, was fined by Anil. This enraged Kevat and he returned after a while with two bottles and splashed its contents on Anil, setting him on fire.

Constable Anil Aitiwadekar suffered 60% burns and was admitted to a nearby hospital. His condition is still serious.
Eyewitnesses also said that they made an attempt to nab Kevat after the incident but he escaped.

“He came with two Bisleri bottles and threw the contents on the cop. It caught fire instantly. I chased him and grabbed his clothes but he kicked me on my head and escaped. He was alone,” said Gajanan Patil an eyewitness to the incident.

Kevat was arrested on Thursday morning and has been remanded to police custody till November 3.

“He was challaned at 7:00 pm. He got angry about this and committed this act,”said Deepak Devraj, the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Thane (rural).

Kevat is believed to be a habitual offender. This is not the first time he has been booked. He was also arrested in March 2008 for raping a 14-year-old girl and was out on bail.

Srinagar: The Army has killed 42 militants during its counter-infiltration and counter-insurgency operations in Kashmir Valley in September, a defence spokesman said here on Saturday.

“As many as 42 well-armed and trained, both local and foreign militants, have been eliminated in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations conducted by the Army in September,” the spokesman said.

He said a large cache of arms and ammunition has also been unearthed during this period.

“In the successful encounters, a large quantity of war-like stores including assault rifles, pistols, rocket propelled grenades, hand grenades, improvised explosive device (IED) equipment, detonators, mines and sophisticated communication equipment have been seized by the Army,” the spokesman said.

He said this is the most successful operation in recent years.

“Vigilant troops along the LoC have intercepted, engaged and eliminated 16 militants and while conducting joint operations with the Special Operations group of state police in the hinterland, 26 militants were killed,” he said, adding the synergy between the security forces has resulted in these result oriented encounters.

Kottayam: Stressing the need to frame separate laws for mental disorder patients like the laws framed to children, Kerala Hight Court chief justice Jasti Chelameswar has said people with mental disorder still living in society, creating various legal violations. Stating that qualified persons who can treat mental disorder was very meagre, Chelameswar said 25 per cent of the mankind suffer mental disability.

Inaugurating 26th annual conference of state branch of Indian Psychiatric Society at Kumarakom on Sunday, Chelameswar said the number of hospitals; doctors and qualified psychiatrists were not upto the requisite mark. The support to the mentally challenged patients from the society and state appears to be minimum which pose problems to the government, he said.

In his keynote address, Minister of state for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Prof. K.V.Thomas said psychiatry is an area where people have not given enough attention.The number of psychiatric patients in the country was more compared with diabetic patients. Timely attention from psychiatrists was necessary as everybody go through a period of depression and mental tension in their life.

Thomas said though several counselling centres were set up in Kerala, mental tension among students was higher especially during SSLC examination and subsequent result announcement.

Mandla: Six months after she was raped repeatedly by six young men, the victim has been identified because of an MMS that details her attack.

The victim, who is a Dalit and was 13 when she was raped, lives near Mandla in Madhya Pradesh.

Her rapists – all college students between the ages of 19 and 21 – include the sons of a policeman and a government official. Three of them, including the policeman’s son, have been arrested. One, whose father is the Deputy Collector of Mandla, is missing.

“We did not want to defame her. She had come with us to the jungle. Three of the boys forced themselves on her. When it was our turn, they filmed us on their phone”. That’s the grizzly confession of one of the men arrested.

The victim’s parents say that they were scared about filing a police case because of the powerful connections of the men who attacked their daughter.

The police are now investigating the case on the basis of the MMS. The accused have been charged with rape, intimidation, and illegally making and selling pornography.

IM media wing in Mumbai Borivali area? Threat mail(al.arbi99913@gmail.com) sent after Jama Masjid attack indicates that. Sunday’s shooting incident in old Delhi may or may not be the work of the Indian Mujahideen (IM), but the threat mail allegedly sent by the banned terror outfit to sections of the media points towards presence of the group’s media wing in the country’s financial capital.

The matter first came into focus two years ago with the arrest of Mohammad Mansoor Asgar Peerbhoy, co-founder of the media cell of Indian Mujahideen (IM) along with six others. According to an expert, within these two years, IM has developed a new media wing and the new threat mail is showing its existence in Mumbai again.

The five-page e-mail, sent at 1:37 pm on Sunday, “dedicates” the attack to the “martyrdom” of Mohammed Atif Amin and Mohammad Sajid, two years to the day at Batla House in Delhi.

Titled “As We Bleed, So Will You Seep”, it warns against the hosting of the Commonwealth Games, saying the group was preparing for a “great surprise”, and warns “Bombayites” of a “fresh bloodbath”. Also, for the first time in an e-mail attributed to the IM, the Kashmir problem is talked about at length.

The threat mail consistently refers to ‘Bombay’, including ‘Bombay Police’. Three previous mails sent by the IM had referred to the city as ‘Mumbai’ all along. The repeated use of the term “idol worshippers” to describe the security forces is another new feature. And unlike earlier e-mails, the latest does not have any pictures.

According to the expert the mail is sent through a data card from Mumbai and police is trying to gather further information. The details furnished by Gmail to the security agency revealed that the account, al.arbi99913@gmail.com, which was used to send the threat mail to a media organisation, was created by a user who has an alternate Rediff account. The police suspect this mail id is fake as well.

“We are suspecting that this email id could be fake. We are in touch with Gmail to get more details. Our investigations are still on and we are in the process of verifying the status of his account,” said a senior police officer.

Officials said the account was created at 11.30 am on Sunday while the alleged incident of firing was reported at 11.22 am.
The e-mail to news channels and agencies was sent at 1.30 pm. The account says it will automatically become non-operational on September 26.

The name provided by the person operating the account is ‘Veera’. The attack, which was carried out on the second anniversary of Batla House encounter was to avenge the death of two Indian Mujahideen terrorists who were gunned down that day.

The statement from Indian Mujahideen disseminated from email on September 19, is shown as having been signed by someone called Al Arbi the same day. It refers to certain anti-Muslim incidents, which allegedly took place in Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh on the day of Eid (September 11). It also refers to the day when the total number of people allegedly killed by the security forces in Jammu & Kashmir crossed 100 (September 17). This indicates that this message must have been drafted between September 17 and 19.

According to the expert, IM has found a successor to Peerbhoy during these two years as the modus operandi remains the same. Moreover, the fact that the mail leads to Mumbai could be a trap as it’s very simple to change the origin of mail by changing the proxy server.

“The statement is in good English with very few grammar or typing mistakes. It has been drafted by someone well versed in the Holy Koran. Earlier we have seen threat mail senders using proxy servers,” said a cyber expert.
Previous IM e-mails were traced to Mumbai after which the outfit’s media cell in Pune was busted and a software programmer was arrested.

TERROR IN CYBERSPACE
Mohammad Mansoor Asgar Peerbhoy, co-founder of the media cell of Indian Mujahideen (IM), had come up with the idea to hack the WiFi connection of computers.
Mansoor had been interacting with cyber experts from across the globe through emails asking them about the proxy server technology, the police said. An investigator said, “Mansoor had sent emails to several cyber experts and hackers from United States, Europe, and Asia.”
The official said that in August 2007, Mansoor had allegedly sent 32 emails to cyber experts across the world. “Mansoor used to surf the internet for hours. He had also received feedback from several computer experts who gave him detailed information on how to hack a WiFi network,” he said.

MAIL TRAIL
The mail which claims to be from Indian Mujahideen (IM) was sent using a Tata Indicom connection registered in the name of a woman. But investigations have revealed that the name is fictitious and all the documents are fake.
“The mail has been sent using a data card and a mobile phone and the Internet Protocol (IP) address has been traced to Mumbai, but chances are high that a proxy server was used to make the mail appear to be coming from Mumbai.
“The message by IM was an attached file in a PDF format, which was kept ready to be sent. But it was finally sent at around 2pm. The reason for the delay could be the pressure cooker bomb, which was scheduled to explode at noon. Due to a malfunction the bomb didn’t explode and only the car caught fire. This is when the e-mail senders must have sent the mail,” said a senior police officer.

September 16, 2010 1:22 PM: A man shot a faculty physician as well as his own mother before killing himself at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. The shooting occurred on the eighth floor of the Nelson Building, the hospital’s main building. Baltimore police found the suspected shooter, who had been barricaded inside his mother’s hospital room for several hours before killing himself and his mother.
At around 11:15 a.m. EDT (1515 UTC), an unnamed doctor was shot in the chest at a patient area of the Nelson Building’s thoracic center. All major hospital facilities were placed under a lockdown, and some medical personnel were evacuated from the Nelson Building. The doctor was sent to surgery at the hospital, and police spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said that the doctor will likely survive the incident. He was not aware of any connections between the suspect and the doctor, who was in critical condition.
A nurse at the hospital told The Baltimore Sun that the shooter was dissatisfied with how his mother had been treated and even said that he was going to jump out of a window. The nurse said that, upon hearing gunshots, she ran.
Earlier, Baltimore area police said that they were “in the process of a tactical operation” to capture the gunman, who was holed up on the eighth floor. A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said that it had been assisting local police in the incident. A Johns Hopkins spokesperson had previously said that authorities had taken the shooter into custody, but police said that the report was incorrect.
The suspect, who had not taken any hostages, was described as a black man in his thirties. After a standoff lasting for three hours, law enforcement officers moved into his mother’s hospital room, and found both him and his mother dead from gunshot wounds to their heads. The suspect was first identified as 50-year-old Warren Davis, and his mother as Jean Davis. Police later said that “Warren Davis” was an alias and that his real name was not known.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick Bealefeld, who said that the department is “treating this case as a murder-suicide,” said that no officers reported hearing the shots that killed the two. Police had previously said that the gunman had been shot and killed by police, but police later said that that report was incorrect.

ATHENS (Reuters) – Greek police charged two U.S. tourists with desecrating the dead on Thursday after they found six human skulls in their hand luggage at Athens international airport, a police official said.

“The skulls were found in a scanner check during a stop-over in Athens on their way back to the United States,” said a police official who requested anonymity. “The coroner confirmed they were human skulls.”

The two young tourists said they had bought the skulls in a souvenir shop on the island of Mykonos and believed they were fake, the offical said, adding they had been released pending trial.
