September 14, 2011, (Sawf News) – Abhishek Bachchan sustained minor injuries – a small cut above the eye that had to be stitched up – while filming for Bol Bachchan on set in Jaipur.

He was filming a small action sequence at the time of the accident.

The actor, who is now back in Mumbai, made light of the mishap over his Twitter account, after thanking fans for expressing their concern.

“Bachpan me mere pitaji ne mujhe sikhaya tha… “mard ko dard nahin hota” :-) !!!,” he tweeted.

“I will be fine. Can’t say the same for the rickshaw!!! Banged him up good! Hehe,” he said a little later.

Bol Bachchan is a remake of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s 1979 comedy film Gol Maal, with Abhishek Bachchan essaying Amol Palekar’s role, and Ajay Devgn, Utpal Dutt’s. The film releases July 6, 2012.

Actor Imran Khan Wednesday filed a public suit in the Mumbai High Court against raising the age limit for drinking to 25 in Maharashtra.

“After the huge success of Delhi Belly and My Brother Ki Dulhan, Imran waited for few days before he filed the PIL (public interest litigation),” said his spokesperson.
The delay in filing the suit was also due to uncertainty on his eligibility to take up such proceedings as he has US citizenship, but a queries under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has confirmed that he can go ahead with it, revealed the spokesperson.

“The delay was because the law had variations and he had to file several RTIs to get the correct picture. The RTI response came on Aug 16 and he did wait for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan to release,” said the spokesperson.

MF Husain had a strong desire to live his last days in India, says noted painter Ganesh Pyne who met him in London three years ago.

Expressing grief at his death, Pyne said, “Husain wished he had breathed his last in India.”

He said he had the privilege to see Husain from close quarters and described him as the “tallest among contemporary Indian artists” who immensely contributed to the enrichment of Indian art in the international arena.

Recalling his meeting with Husain in Dubai four years ago, painter Jogen Choudhury said the artist had a special bond with Bengal and did a series on Jibananda Das, Satyajit Ray and Mother Teresa.

He also referred to his random painting at the Tata Centre on Chowringhee Road during Durga Puja which were all erased on the day of Bijaya Dashami to mark the theme of creation and ruin.

“He was a painter who wanted to be in public domain and did not live in isolation. It was unfortunate that he could not live in his own country in the last few years after earning the wrath of fundamentalists,” Choudhury said.

He also recalled an occasion 15 years back when Husain was felicitated in Santiniketan during convocation in the Visva-Bharati University and had to be flown in the West Bengal’s governor’s aircraft to the place after arriving in Kolkata from London at 11 am as the function was supposed to begin before noon.

“We shared a bond and he signed MF Husain in Bengali following my calligraphy style once,” he said.

Another well-known artist Ganesh Haloi said a vacuum had been created in the death of Husain who as a creative artist largely contributed in creating awareness for Indianness among contemporary Indian artists.

“Husain had his own entity and never followed others which was well manifest in his great creation ‘Horse and Woman’ which had been highly inspiring,” he said.

Haloi said that Husain’s short film Umbrella and feature film Gajagamini starring Madhuri Dixit, Shabana Azmi, Shah Rukh Khan and Naseeruddin Shah had been another facet of the great artist’s talent.

Eminent artist Suvaprasanna said Husain was a creative modern artist “whom I knew since 1967 and who established himself as one of the world’s best painters from the level of a banner artist”.

Suvaprasanna recalled his felicitating the artist in Dubai along with a group of artists and said, “We had an excellent time when he (Husain) sang with us.”

He said it was unfortunate that some threat mails to Husain prevented him from returning to his own country.

Veteran artist Sunil Das said, “It is difficult to think that Husain, who is parallel to Pablo Picasso in India, is no more. A powerful artist, whom I found drawing on the footpaths in Delhi in 1965-66, rose to eminence.

“I had hours of discussions with Husain in the studio of Yash Chopra, noted producer-director, in Mumbai when Husain was in India.”

Das appealed to the central and state governments to set up a museum for preserving Husain’s paintings.

The song “Character Dheela” in the new Bollywood release Ready has reportedly landed the film’s lead actor Salman Khan and director Anees Bazmee in legal trouble.

A report from IBN-live says the Allahabad High Court has issued notices to Salman Khan and Anees Bazmee after receiving a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the song ‘Character Dheela’ in the film.

The PIL has been filed by the chairman and the general secretary of the Hindu Personal Law Board. The duo has objected to the use of the word ‘Raas Leela’ in the song ‘Character Dheela’. They allege that the lyrics of the song are defamatory to the Sanatan Dharma.

The litigation also seeks a cancelation of the certification of ‘Ready’ and an eventual stay on the exhibition of the film.

Justices Devi Prasad Singh and Justice Rajiv Sharma of the vacation division bench of Lucknow have directed Salman and Bazmee to file a reply within three weeks.

AHMEDABAD, India — A speeding truck in western India ran over and killed 18 Muslim pilgrims who were sleeping on a roadside early on Thursday morning, police said.
The pilgrims were on their way to a festival at a shrine 90 kilometres (55 miles) from Ahmedabad, Gujarat state’s largest city, when they stopped near a highway cafe to rest for the night.
“In total 18 people have died, including nine women. Ten others are injured,” a Gujarat police official who declined to be named told AFP.
“All the pilgrims were travelling on foot. Sixteen people died on the spot when the truck ran over them, and another two people died at a local hospital,” he said.
Ambulances rushing to help victims were delayed by large crowds who gathered at the accident site. Police said that the truck driver and his assistant fled from the scene.
About 125,000 people, or about 350 a day, died on India’s roads in 2009, according to the latest statistics from the National Crime Records Bureau.
On Wednesday, a bus plunged off a bridge and burst into flames in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, killing 22 people, after the driver tried to avoid another crash.

Haridwar: An hour after his supporters suggested that Baba Ramdev had launched a maun vrat or vow of silence, he proved them wrong. At a press conference in Haridwar, the yoga icon spoke at length to defend accusations that his business empire is based on financial malpractices, and that his remark yesterday on creating an army of warriors is anti-national and could incite violence among his lakhs of followers.

Baba Ramdev announced that in keeping with his “commitment to complete transparency,” he has declared on his website the financial details of his empire, whose turnover is rumoured to run into thousands of crores. The yoga teacher said he had stolen people’s hearts, not money. An income tax inquiry is being conducted on his Patnajali group of companies. The Baba said that the total capital of different institutions linked to him is Rs. 426 crore, and that his group has spent Rs. 249 crore on charity. “Every penny can be accounted for,” he announced. Earlier today, administration officials in Haridwar visited the Baba Ramdev to request him to end his hunger strike launched five days ago as part of his satyagraha against corruption. Doctors who conducted his check-up this morning said they are worried about his health.

“He has decided to take lemon water and honey so that his body gets glucose,” Haridwar District Magistrate R Meenakshi Sundaram disclosed after meeting the yoga teacher. The Baba has reportedly lost more than five kilos since his fast began. When asked if he could n be force-fed, Mr Sundaram replied, “We will do whatever is necessary to save Baba’s life.”

The Baba also devoted considerable time explaining his statement yesterday -he had said he would recruit 11,000 young men and women who would reciprocate if attacked. Today, he said his remark had been distorted and misreported. “The words should be used in the right context…I said I will make a force who will not beat anyone but they will not get beaten either,” the yoga teacher said, adding, “what is the harm or wrong if I speak about shaurya (valour)?”

The Baba’s remark – seen as incendiary by his critics – had also provoked criticism from other social activists and a warning of legal action from the government

It has been an all-out war between the government and the yoga icon since the weekend after his yoga camp plus sit-in at Delhi was dismantled by the police, some say with brutal force. 65,000 supporters were teargassed and lathicharged. Four people were seriously injured; one is likely to be paralyzed for life. The government action was described by the Opposition as a “murder of democracy.” Activists led by Gandhian Anna Hazare held a fast in Rajghat yesterday to protest against what happened at Baba Ramdev’s camp, and to pressure the government to bend to their version of a new law against corruption.

In April, a hunger fast by Mr Hazare transformed into a nationwide intervention against corruption in the government. A shower of scandals had exposed blatant misuse of public office by a few ministers and MPs. Corporate India and politicians seemed to be exploiting a mutually-beneficial relationship. Mr Hazare, circled by lakhs of protestors, won the day. The government agreed to immediately draft the long-delayed Lokpal Bill against corruption. Mr Hazare and four other activists were allowed to join five ministers in drafting that bill.

Mr Ramdev’s camp over the weekend was meant to be a sister concern of Mr Hazare’s movement, which is labeled India Against Corruption. Worried that Baba Ramdev, known for his lakhs of followers, would cause the government the same sort of Public Relations nightmare as Mr Hazare’s earlier fast, the government was over-eager to negotiate with him. Four ministers were sent to the airport to receive him -an honour that many pointed out is not accorded to visiting heads of state. Several rounds of negotiations followed. Then on Saturday evening, the delicate peace was shattered.

The government claims that the yoga teacher reneged on a deal that had been struck the evening before his fast began. In exchange for the government agreeing to some of his suggestions on how to check black money, Baba Ramdev had committed to ending his fast early on Saturday evening. When he refused to publicly end his hunger strike, the government moved in.

In recent days, the government has questioned Baba Ramdev’s credibility and intent. Some Congress leaders have alleged that his businesses have broken the law. However, last year, several ministers travelled to Haridwar to inaugurate his Patanjali Ayurveda Hospital.

Haridwar: Baba Ramdev, who will declare his assets today to counter allegations that he has illegal wealth, has also defended his controversial call to arms yesterday. (Read: Ramdev to make public details of assets today)

On Wednesday, the Baba had said he would build and train an army of 11,000 men and women to fight corruption and warned the government that the next time there was police action at a protest, his supporters would be armed and would retaliate. He did not climb down completely on Thursday, but was on the defensive when he said he was not “training terrorists or Maoists, but nationalists.”

“The words should be used in the right context…I said I will make a force who will not beat anyone but they will not get beaten either,” the yoga teacher said, adding, “what is the harm or wrong if I speak about shaurya (valour)?”

Ramdev’s provocative comment in Haridwar yesterday caused a political storm in nearby Delhi. He had said: “Twenty youth from each region will come forward for our fight against corruption. They must be dedicated, ready to make the ultimate sacrifice. They will be given arms training. Next time at Ramlila it will be Ravanlila. Let’s see who gets beaten up.” (Watch)

The government made its stand clear. “It is anti-national and we have to take action,” warned V Narayanswamy, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office. (Watch) An hour later, the Home Minister weighed in. “I’ve seen Ramdev’s statement. By making that statement he’s exposed his true colours and intention. Let him do so and the law will deal with that,” P Chidambaram said.

Later on Wednesday evening, a statement issued by his spokesperson SK Tijarawala said that the Baba did not mean training in the use of guns or bombs and that the intention was not to take law in their hands. (Read: Baba Ramdev clarifies arms call)

The government has been caught in a face-off with the yoga icon since the weekend, when it ordered the police to dismantle a massive camp that the Baba had organised – it combined yoga with a sit-in against corruption. On Saturday, the Baba launched an indefinite hunger strike. Hours later, the police moved in and arrested him. The 65,000 people gathered at Ramlila Maidan were teargassed and lathi-charged.

The incident brought together activists and opposition parties who condemned the government for breaking up a peaceful demonstration.

Gandhian Anna Hazare was also on a one-day fast on Wednesday at Rajghat in the Capital to protest against the action at Ramlila Maidan, and to push the government to agree to a new corruption law that’s being drafted partly by activists led by him. Mr Hazare- the face of a campaign named India Against Corruption – declared that his movement is a “second freedom movement.” (Read: Anna’s ultimatum to the Govt) If the government doesn’t introduce the new Lokpal Bill by August 15, he warned, he will go on another fast.

Hundreds of police swooped on the Ramlila ground in the wee hours and forcibly removed Baba Ramdev after dispersing his supporters with tear gas and batons, ending the hunger strike against corruption he launched less than 24 hours earlier. In a meticulously planned operation, Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force personnel descended on the protest venue in the heart of the capital taking by surprise both Ramdev and the mass of his sleeping supporters.
Surrounded by a group from his yoga ashram, the guru, dressed in women’s salwar-kameez and dupatta in a vain attempt to evade the cops, drove to his Patanjali Yoga Peeth near Haridwar and accused the government of not just trying to muzzle his anti-graft campaign but eliminate him.

“The barbarism and atrocities inflicted by police on one lakh people crossed all limits and even women and children were not spared,” the Baba said.

He then started his attack on Congress president Sonia Gandhi. “She is running the government by remote-control. She is daughter-in-law of this country… she does not love the mothers and sisters of this country,” he told
reporters.

“The government, especially the Congress, does not want to see me alive as my movement can expose their black deeds,” he said, a few hours after he was flown out, bundled into a military chopper that landed near Dehradun at 10.30am.

The unknown perpetrators, who appeared to originate from the city of Jinan in Shandong province, recently tried to crack and monitor email accounts by stealing passwords, but Google detected and “disrupted” their campaign, the world’s largest Web search company said on its official blog.

The revelation comes more than a year after Google disclosed a cyberattack on its systems that it said it traced to China, and could further strain an already tense relationship between the Web giant and Beijing. Google eventually all but pulled out of the world’s largest Internet market by users.

“We recently uncovered a campaign to collect user passwords, likely through phishing,” Google said in a post on its corporate blog, referring to the practice where computer users are tricked into giving up sensitive information.

“The goal of this effort seems to have been to monitor the contents of these users’ emails.”

It “affected what seem to be the personal Gmail accounts of hundreds of users, including among others, senior U.S. government officials, Chinese political activists, officials in several Asian countries (predominantly South Korea), military personnel and journalists.”

Google did not say the Chinese government was behind the attacks or say what might have motivated the intrusions.
