Pomp and gaiety marked the music launch of Robot (the Telugu version of Enthiran) at Hotel Taj Krishna, Hyderabad, on Friday night.

The film made on Sun Pictures banner is directed by Shankar, starring Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. It has music by AR Rahman. The Tamil version of the music was released recently in Malaysia.

Lyricist Bhuvana Chandra, Suddala Ashok Teja and Vanamali penned the lyrics for the Telugu version, while dialogues are rendered by Sri Ramakrishna.

Rajinikanth, Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi, Mohan Babu, D. Ramanaidu, Shankar, Sun Pictures CEO Hansraj Saksena, Cinematographer Ratnavel, Imax Ramesh Prasad, Kajal Agarwal, Sreenu Vytla were among the prominent personalities who took part in the event.

Chiranjeevi unveiled the audio CD and presented the first number to Rajinikanth. The trailer was released by Mohan Babu.

Director Shankar said, “There are three highlights in Robot. They are the story, Rajnikanth and his style, and computer graphics. Coming to the story, Rajini plays the role of a scientist who makes a robot in his own image, with the strength of one hundred men. It will be introduced in human society. What happens when the robot enters the public life? It evokes entertainment, fun and shock. Rajini will appear in three shades – as scientist, a robot without expressions, and the third one is suspense for now. Generally, this kind of role is played only by a Kamal or Vikram, bearing the monotony of makeup for hours together. There are 1500 graphic shots in the movie. The audience will feel the thrill of a Mummy or Spiderman. I am thankful to Kalanidhi Maran for salvaging the project when we were on the verge of withdrawing due to paucity of funds.”

Rajnikanth followed by sayin, “It is a happy occasion to have Chiranjeevi releasing the audio. I want to write a book on the making of this film. I know what kind of jeers and insults the film unit underwent when the shoot came to a halt sometime back. The credit of rolling the film on track goes to Kalanidhi Maran. His confidence in me prompted him to spend about Rs 140 crores. Earlier, when Shankar asked me to be the hero, I was thrilled. The thrill further enhanced with the entry of Aishwarya Roy as heroine. Robot is a new thought and a new beginning in the Indian cinema. Definitely, it will win the kudos of one and all.”

Chiranjeevi said, “Generally, I am man with positive thinking. As I see the hungama of Robot, I feel jealous (said in a lighter vein) of it. The very name of Rajnikanth evokes hoots and whistles among all sections of the audience. When I was a student of film acting, I eagerly waited for Rajnikanth to come and take classes. I had a doubt whether the audience would accept me as a hero. But, after seeing Rajnikanth, my self-confidence doubled. He looks so grand on the screen, but so simple off the screen. At a time when Rajini was thought to be ready to come into politics, I took the early step. But, he did not, and made Robot. In this manner, Rajnikanth cheated me. Recently, my fans asked me to do a film, but I said no. After seeing the trailers, I feel like doing a film again. If at all I do a film in future, it would be thanks to the inspiration from Robot.” Chiranjeevi also praised Shankar a lot.

Mohan Babu said that “it would a big challenge to any actor to put on makeup for several hours. I know how much struggle my friend Rajini went through in the process. I wish that the film should run for a number of weeks to suit his incredible age.”
