College teachers lock up principal’s office

NEW DELHI: Teachers of Ram Lal Anand college have not only held the teaching process to ransom since Friday but also locked the principal’s room for which police had to be called on Tuesday.
The teachers demanded from the college’s governing body (GB) to send the principal, Dr Vijay Sharma, on leave, on allegations of sexual harassment, whereas the DU apex committee has already rejected the teacher’s allegations. The GB, meanwhile, expressed its inability to send the principal on leave and it has already set up an inquiry for the matter.
However, the teachers decided to go on an indefinite strike. Meanwhile, the college administration has alleged that the teachers are indulging in competitive politics of coercion and aggression because of the forthcoming executive and academic council elections.
“The strike is illegal as it is affecting the students. The forcible locking of the room is also illegal for which I was forced to call police. But when the room was unlocked and police left, the teachers refused me entry to my room and I had to work at an alternate location,” said Sharma.
The college administration said things may turn worse as the teachers are threatening to boycott the DUSU election on September 3, as well.
