Don’t go by the title of Madhur Bhandarkar’s next Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji and his claims that the film is a romantic-comedy.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has given Bhandarkar’s next an ‘Adults Only’ certificate. And the National award-winning director, who is known for making “realistic cinema”, cannot come to terms with reality now.
A source close to Bhandarkar told Mumbai Mirror, “Given the movie’s title, Madhur never expected that the board would give his film an ‘A’ certificate. He was told that the content of his film is very bold.”
Bhandarkar, who has co-produced Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji with Kumar Mangat, is utterly disappointed mainly because an ‘A’ certificate automatically cuts down viewership. “Yes, I am upset. It has happened with me once again. I was not happy when Fashion too was given an A certificate, but I really had no choice,” said Bhandarkar.
And it seems the Censor Board didn’t leave him a choice even this time. The board members, who watched the movie yesterday in Mumbai, objected to at least ten scenes including all of Emraan Hashmi’s lovemaking scenes (and there are several).
The Board members were adamant about each cut. Bhandarkar’s argument that the scenes were an integral part of the movie and that deleting them would mean compromising on the realistic depiction of the subject, fell on deaf years. The censors told Madhur, “The entire theme is blatantly adult.
You guys have discussed virginity and pornography. Nothing doing. You have to cut several scenes if you want a ‘U’ certificate. This film in its present state is definitely not fit to be shown to kids’.
When contacted, Chief Executive Office of CBFC, Pankaja Thakur told Mumbai Mirror, “There was no way Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji could get a ‘U’ certificate. We did what we had to. We simply did our job.”
