HYDERABAD: The Central Crime Station (CCS)-Women police on Wednesday arrested a 63-year-old man for allegedly sexually abusing his daughter-in-law. Police also arrested the woman’s husband.

Businessmen P Maheshwar Goud and his son P Vijaya Pratap Goud, 27, were arrested from their house in Bowenpally based on a complaint lodged by P Vishnu Priya, Vijaya Pratap’s wife, with CCS-Women police station.

“Vishnu Priya, a resident of Vidyanagar, had married Vijaya Pratap Goud in May 2009. At the time of marriage, the girl’s parents gave Rs 16 lakh dowry. Five months after marriage, both the father-in-law and husband reportedly started harassing her. Her father-in-law even started sexually harassing her,” CCS-Women inspector S Jyothi Lakshmi told TOI.

When she took the sexual harassment issue to her husband’s notice, he chided her, the inspector added.

The incident came to light when Vishnu Priya called up her friend a week ago and narrated her tale. She asked her friend to inform the matter to her parents. Three days ago, her parents took her home and on Tuesday night helped her approach CCS-Women PS and lodge a complaint against the father-in-law and husband.

A case was registered under sections 498-A (punishment for subjecting a married woman to cruelty), 354 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 3, 4 and 6 of the Dowry Prohibition Act against the father-in-law and husband, the inspector said.

The two were arrested and produced before court, which remanded them in judicial custody. Later, they were shifted to the Chanchalguda Central Prison.
