Five reality shows that rocked 2010

With Shah Rukh Khan readying himself for Zor Ka Jhatka in 2011 and India’s very own Minute To Win It coming up, it’s more than evident what the living room staple is. The genre of TV reality shows took off to an all new level in Bollywood while Hollywood’s favourite shows faced some turbulence. On that note, we take a look at five reality shows that have made an impression, caused us discomfort, or made our prime time schedule thoroughly enjoyable.

Rakhi Ka Insaaf
Up first we have the controversial item girl Rakhi Sawant. She entered our living rooms first with her Swayamvar. She followed it up with Pati, Patni Aur Woh where she looked after a range of children. Then came Rakhi Ka Insaaf. This is by far her most controversial show.

She takes on personal disputes and gives her unbiased verdict. Well, that’s what she promises.

Bigg Boss 4
This show has got a new lease of life in its fourth season all thanks to the bombastic Salman Khan. With him in the lead everything else that goes on in the house has got that extra bling. For instance, the Sarah-Ali staged wedding that took this show to an all-new high. They even had Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson on the show!

Khatron Ke Khiladi
Sure, the Indian version of Fear Factor was gripping when it first debuted with Akshay Kumar. But it’s third season was something else altogether.

A super hot Priyanka Chopra played the daredevil host. And the participants were hunks ranging from Milind Soman to Dino Morea. And they took the show to Brazil. Wow! Wow! Wow!

American Idol
Our favourite music reality show was under threat of turning into a disaster now that Simon Cowell has quit the show. Let’s admit it. The show is not exciting without his incendiary remarks. But the producers have brought in Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith to keep us happy. We’re still giving this new avatar a trial run.

Jersey Shore
The second season of the immensely popular reality show featuring guidos & guidettes got off to a great start. We’ve been wondering why we love this show so much that we kept watching reruns of the first season till the second got underway. Is it Snooki’s pouff? Is it her spontaneity? Is it the house politics? We can’t nail the answer but we’re definitely not shying away from the fact that we love it!
