India’s most successful captain, Sourav Ganguly, created a flutter on Monday when he announced his retirement to a TV news channel. “I have already retired from international cricket. I was playing Ranji only to stay fit for the IPL. I see no possibility of playing in the IPL any more. And now, I don’t see any point in playing competitive cricket again,” he told the channel.
But hours later, the former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper issued a statement: “I retired from international cricket in 2008. If I don’t get to play IPL I won’t participate in any form of domestic cricket. But if I do get an opportunity to play IPL, I’ll play domestic cricket to stay fit.”
