Jazz artists, jugglers, caricature artists, fire eaters, acrobats, food courts serving Goan delicacies and a grand shopping hunt! The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2010 will have more than just movies this year.
The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), which hosts IFFI, has partnered with the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) to create a mega shopping and food festival to be held between Nov 22 and Dec 2 coinciding with IFFI 2010. The two major towns of Goa – Panaji and Margao – will don a festive look and play host to the shopping and food festival.
In an attempt to replicate the Dubai shopping festival model for the event, extensive discounts will be offered at over 200 retail establishments and restaurants. The Grand Shopping Hunt, a treasure hunt with over 100 participants is the highlight of the shopping festival. Additionally there will be contests and games held everyday for children as well as adults.
Said Manoj Srivastava, CEO, Entertainment Society of Goa “This year IFFI synergizes global participation, high profile glamour, world-class entertainment and internationally applauded films. We want to extent that excitement and buzz beyond the theatres to the people of Goa. The shopping and food festival will embody the spirit of IFFI with the perfect mix of fun, entertainment, and great cuisine”.
Elaborating further on the film festival, said S.M. Khan, Director, Directorate of Film Festivals, “ Yash Chopra will inaugurate IFFI 2010. In addition we have a total of 450 entries for the Cinema of the World section. The competition section will have 15 films from 15 countries and 3 films from India. The Master Class series will feature Oscar winner Rasul Pukutty and Boman Irani” While Pukutty will conduct a session on sound technology on the 27th of November, Boman Irani will elaborate on the evolution of comedy in cinema on the 1st of December.
“There has been perfect planning and coordination between DFF and ESG. The efforts of the last months will come to fruition this IFFI 2010 where we look forward to showcasing the best of films amidst lots of fun and excitement”, he added.
