New Delhi: Heavy rains occurred across North India Saturday claiming three more lives in Uttar Pradesh where flood-like situation prevailed in many districts with major rivers rising further while a downpour in Delhi resulted in water logging and traffic snarls at many places.

A 28-year-old woman and her two minor children died in UP’s Etah district this morning when the roof of their house collapsed over them due to incessant rains, official sources said.

These deaths have taken the number of people killed in rain-related incidents in the state to 76, they said.

Heavy showers disrupted normal life in several parts of Himachal Pradesh triggering landslides and uprooting trees which led to disruption of power supply and telecommunication links at places.

Heavy rains lashed the national capital resulting in traffic snarls in many areas due to water logging including the BRT corridor, Sheikh Sarai, Chirag Delhi, Anzal Plaza, Siri Fort, Mehrauli, Lajpat Nagar, Raja Garden, Ashram and Mongolpuri among other localities.

The rains also uprooted trees in many areas of the national capital.

The minimum temperature recorded was 27.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal.

So far, the city has received a total 242.2 mm of rains after the monsoon touched the capital on July 5.

Chandigarh and its surrounding areas also received heavy showers which threw normal life out of gear.

A downpour in the morning caused flooding of roads leading to traffic jams at several points in the city while some low-lying areas were under deep water.

Rains also lashed Sonepat, Ambala, Karnal and a few other places in Haryana and Mohali and Patiala in Punjab bringing down the mercury which dropped by a few notches.

Chandigarh recorded a high of 30.6 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal.

Ambala registered a high of 30.3 deg C, down by three degrees while the high at Karnal settled at 28.5 deg C, down by five notches.

Amritsar in Punjab received light rains and the maximum there settled at 34.4 deg C.
