HP sparks billion dreams with the DreamScreen

HP DreamScreen is designed to offer simplicity and relevance as it enables users to access the most-relevant and best-in-class content, affordably through the Internet — like education, video chat, music, movies, news, browsing, temple darshans and much more for a truly interactive, engaging and enriched connected experience.

Hewlett-Packard unveiled the HP DreamScreen, a digital device all set to take centre-stage in Indian homes and the world. In the DreamScreen, HP has created an icon based, touch enabled intuitive interface which brings a host of latest and pioneering services to the users’ fingertips.

HP DreamScreen is designed to offer simplicity and relevance as it enables users to access the most-relevant and best-in-class content, affordably through the Internet — like education, video chat, music, movies, news, browsing, temple darshans and much more for a truly interactive, engaging and enriched connected experience.

HP DreamScreen comes with complete Entertainment package which includes Music, Bollywood Movies, Bollywood TV and Games. It also addresses the Lifestyle and Education needs of the users and offers Live Darshan, Education, News, Daily Astrology, web browser and an e-book on Weddings.

The result: children, parents and grandparents benefit together on a single platform. Families can connect with anyone on the web by just dialing a number through video calling capabilities, watch Bollywood movies on the device or on a DVD/ VCD, listen to Bollywood and spiritual songs, play games, book train and air tickets and do a lot more. Children can access rich, interactive multi-media content that mirrors the curriculum followed in their schools.

To deliver an interactive experience that is tailored for India, HP has collaborated with leading, best-in-class Indian content and service providers to create an immersive experience for all members of the family, including first-time technology users.

These include companies like Airtel and Tata Teleservices for providing Internet connectivity options, Apalya for Darshan, Bill Desk for paying bills online, Edurite for education, Hungama for music and movies, India Games for thrilling games, India Today for media content, Music Today for Music, NDTV for news and Daily Astrology, Tata Communications for Live Darshan and Yatra for booking Air and Train travel.

Addressing the language barrier, information on HP DreamScreen will be accessible in Hindi and English, allowing whoever sits at the helm to choose the language they find comfortable. This will be subsequently rolled out in other Indian local languages to make computing an easy and relevant experience.

The shining example of woman empowerment, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, who epitomizes the Indian woman of today with deep rooted family values, graced the launch of the HP DreamScreen at a press conference in New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Satjiv S Chahil Strategic Advisor, Global Market Development, HP said, “What was once a dream is now within reach. A tap of a finger takes the families to the information, education and entertainment they seek. With such an easy way to access the Internet, Indian families will now be able to fulfill their aspirations and be a part of the digital age. With DreamScreen, HP is bringing the power of touch to the Indian families now.”

Speaking on the relevance of this game-changing product innovation to a country like India, Sunil Dutt, Vice President and General Manager, Personal Systems Group, HP India, said “The HP DreamScreen is clearly a leap into the future that will power the dreams of millions of Indian consumers as they integrate into a borderless, free digital world. It also helps take technology and connectivity beyond the big cities to the tier II and III cities.”

Jos Brenkel, Senior Vice President, Personal Systems Group, HP Asia Pacific and Japan added, “HP is the forerunner in the technology space and with the DreamScreen we introduce a revolutionary experience and business model disruption that is built on a unique partner ecosystem to empower non – PC owners to adopt technology and leverage it in day-to-day life.”

Highlighting the ‘Go to Market’ strategy he added, “The distribution cycle for the HP DreamScreen is tapped in such a way that every family in India has easy access to learn about the product with a guided hands-on experience”

To develop the DreamScreen, HP’s Innovation Program Office (IPO) studied the Indian market and worked closely with families in their homes to refine the product over many years.

“We sat with people in their homes and listened to what was important to them. They inspired us.” said Phil McKinney, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Personal Systems Group, HP, and head of HP’s IPO.

“To serve kids, their parents and their grandparents in a family – sharing one device – that was our goal. Today we have unveiled HP DreamScreen, which is just a version 1.0 of a long series of product experiences to follow. HP will subsequently take this experience to other countries.”

Aligned to HP’s vision of addressing the barriers to PC adoption in India and women in particular, HP also announced its partnership with iSKIP, a social venture with an aim to instill economic security through skills training and facilitating enhanced access to livelihood opportunities. HP will be funding the training program and will provide HP DreamScreen units that will empower the beneficiary women.

The concept and business model is scalable to other countries and regions. It offers HP the opportunity to serve families across the world over that don’t have a PC at home today.

Pricing and Availability

The HP DreamScreen will be available beginning November 25th across 700 outlets across 60 cities in the country at a special price point of Rs. 19,999 plus taxes, exclusively for Airtel and Tata subscribers.
