New Delhi: Grappler Geeta Devi got India its 14th gold medal as she was victorious in the 55kg freestyle wrestling event, marking a great day of Commonwealth Games bounty hunting.

Shooters had continued with their aim at the bullseye, winning the 13th gold medal for India as Omkar and Gurpreet won the 10 mt air pistol event and kept the tempo in the hosts` favour. India’s medals tally had swelled to 12 golds on the fourth day of the 2010 CWG as Vijay Kumar and Gurpreet won in the 25 mtr rapid fire pistol event.

Meanwhile, grappler Nirmala Devi won the silver medal in freestyle wrestling to bolster the hosts’ medals tally further.

Earlier, India earned their first medal of the fourth day after the women archery team clinched a bronze in the compound archery event.

Things were better in other sports as well with Poulomi Ghatak became the first Indian woman to advance to the finals of a table tennis event, confirming at least a silver medal for the nation. Her feat is historic as India have managed nothing more than a bronze in the discipline.

India dominated at the shooting range where they garnered three golds and as many silver medals in the first part of the third day of competitions at the Games.

Shooting gold medals were won by Gagan Narang, at the expense of Olympic champion and teammate Abhinav Bindra, and pistol shooters Omkar Singh and Anisa Sayyed, while two silver medals were brought home by Sarnobat Rahi, who finished second behind Anisa, and double trap duo of Ronjan Sondhi and Asher Noria.

There was a fourth gold for the host country earned through the effort of woman lifter Renu Bala Chanu in the 58 kg class as India`s tally went up by six medals to help them remain in second spot behind table-topper Australia.
