LUCKNOW: In a shocking incident, body of a 17-month-old child, allegedly murdered by his neighbour by drowning him, was found in a water tank in RDSO colony under Manak Nagar police station on Tuesday. The police later arrested the alleged killer.

The victim was identified as Sudhaar, son of Rajkumar Gautam, residing in outhouse no. A of engineer Rakesh Kumar’s house number C&W 25-B in RDSO. The accused was identified as Kaluram Pal, residing in the adjacent outhouse number C of the same house.

The police said Sudhaar went missing on Monday noon. His family members searched for Sudhaar but in vain. However, on Tuesday morning, slippers of Sudhaar were spotted in the backyard of outhouse. Sensing some trouble, his family launched a manhunt and found his body in the water tank between the two outhouses.

Circle officer Alambagh Rajesh Srivastava told TOI that prima-facie it looked to be a case of murder. Circumstantial evidence hint that the boy was taken to the water tank and drowned, he said. However, anything concrete could be said only after the postmortem report of Sudhaar comes, he added.

Sources said Sudhaar was last spotted near the house with Pal. This was one of the reasons that police believe that Sudhaar was murdered. Secondly, the spot where the slippers of Sudhaar were found was beyond the reach of such a small child, said police. The water tank was around two-feet in height, which again proves that someone must have taken the boy inside the tank, police added.

Further, it was learnt that both Kaluram and Rajkumar were booked about eight months ago following a dispute between them. The police said the duo have an old rivalry with each other over some issue related to water supply.

Kaluram and Rajkumar, both gangmen in railways, are alcoholic, said police.While Kaluram works as a cook with the railways, Rajkumar works as a train driver.

The police said Kaluram was arrested from Manak Nagar railway station on Tuesday afternoon.
