MUMBAI: After hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons, Rahul Mahajan and his wife Dimpy are making all the efforts to “correct” their marital problems. The Mahajan couple is now undergoing counselling sessions with Dr Sachin Patkar and his psychologist wife Dr Varsha Patkar.

Talking about last week’s incident where Rahul had reportedly hit Dimpy, Dr Sachin said, “Rahul has been under stress for a long time now and his behaviour was the result of his pent up angst.”

“People often believe that they have dealt with their stress, but that may not be the case. We tend to sweep our feelings under the carpet,” said Dr Sachin. “But our suppressed emotions catch up with us sooner or later,” he added. “Rahul has been through a lot in the last couple of years and his reaction to an SMS that Dimpy had received was beyond his control,” said Dr Sachin.

Rahul and Dimpy approached the Patkars two days after the incident. “We had a heart to heart conversation and realised that we needed to go in for counselling,” said Rahul. “We realised that our problems were too big for us to handle alone,” Dimpy said.

According to the Patkars, Rahul and Dimpy have accepted their problems and are working on them. “It is a three-step process-awareness, acceptance and action. They are aware of their shortcomings and have accepted their follies.”

“Dimpy’s role is crucial. She has to complement Rahul’s efforts and together they will overcome their tribulations,” said Dr Sachin.

Dimpy is more than willing to make things work. “It is good that we are confronting our problems now. In fact, this incident has brought us and our families closer,” she said.

Although Rahul refuses to discuss last week’s incidents, Dimpy said that their dispute shouldn’t have been made public. “I wish it had remained between the two of us. Talking to the media was a mistake,” Dimpy said.

Dr Varsha said, “The couple will have to undergo intensive counselling sessions, follow a special diet, yoga and even hypno-therapy for behaviour modification. The treatment will take about six to 10 weeks and noticeable results will be seen only after six months.”
