Mercedes-Benz launches E 200 CGI BlueEfficiency

Mercedes-Benz and its onslaught of launches doesn’t seem to be relenting any time soon. They have gone ahead and added yet another engine variant to their E-Class lineup.
Called the E 200 CGI BlueEfficiency, the car features the same 1.8-litre turbocharged unit found on the C200 CGI and produces around 183 bhp of peak power and nearly 30 kgm of peak torque. The E 200 CGI in fact produces more torque than the E 250 V6, which means not only would it accelerate quicker than the V6, it would also deliver better efficiency while at it. Using Mercedes-Benz’ proprietary Blue Efficiency tech, the E 200 CGI is kinder to the environment too, producing a lesser CO2 figure than the supercharged kompressor unit based on the same engine block.
Mercedes-Benz India have priced the car at Rs 38.76 lakh, ex-showroom Pune and Rs 39.5 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. This makes it the fifth engine on offer in the E-Class saloon range after the E 350 V6, E 350 CDI, E 250 V6 and E 250 CDI.Lighting technology plays a greater role in the new CLS, with full LED headlights incorporating 71 individual LEDs. As we noted in the First Look article on the 2012 CLS, the lights may have a functional benefit, but they also just look cool.
The outgoing car’s L-shaped headlights are gone and the new, more upright grille frames the three-pointed star with just one horizontal slat.
The general profile view is similar in both models, but the 2012 CLS has more pronounced side sculpting above the rear wheel wells.
Mercedes-Benz paid as much attention to the 2012 CLS’ interior design as that of the exterior. A wraparound dash makes the cockpit feel tailored and there’s a high-gloss analog clock to add a bit of class.
The steering wheel is new, but the most significant difference between the two interiors is the placement of the navigation screen at the very top of the dash, making it easier to see than the low-set screen in the outgoing model.
So the CLS has been updated, but has it been improved? What do you think?
Last week, the 2011 Jeep Wrangler — with a redone interior — was polarizing.
Jeep_or_Die found that the interior may now be too nice: “I like to not worry what happens to my Jeep if I leave it out in the rain or get mud all over the interior.”
“I think the interior is refreshing,” said himoses. “It is not awesome or anything, but it looks handsome, well laid out, and durable.”
