Microsoft Xbox Headset Quality to Improve

After the launch of the new, slimmer Xbox 360, Microsoft is seriously looking to improve the gaming experience for its users. With the next system update for Xbox 360, the voice chat codec will be tweaked for better quality output.
This is basically a small update to get ready for the launch of the upcoming controller free device – Kinect for Xbox 360. Eurogamer reported that Jerry Johnson, Xbox LIVE Studios head, mentioned at Edinburgh Interactive Festival that clearer chat conversation between gamers would be possible when they game online.
Microsoft had launched its voice chat feature with low bit rate codec with Xbox LIVE in November 2002. Johnson said, “We launched and we said we required broadband. We required a 64k connection, which not many people think of as broadband any longer. But that was the minimum requirement to run the service at the time. It’s time for us to move on. Especially if we want to think about broadening – a crackly headset on the top of your head – not what people think of when they talk about popular entertainment.”
With Kinect on the anvil and loads of multiplayer team based games being developed, voice chat has become one of the crucial features for the Xbox 360. New system update for Xbox 360 will be released before or after Kinect launches on November 4. That should help the new slim Xbox 360 buyers to make the best of the bundled headset.
