No gifts for Ash, iPad for Big B

On April 20, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary. Though the two will spend time together, they haven’t planned anything grand for their big day yet.

Abhishek says, “Dum Maaro Dum will be nearing its release date so its promotion will b

e in the last stages. I’ll be travelling across the country. Currently, I don’t know where I’ll be on our wedding anniversary. But Aishwarya will be with me wherever I am.”

And what does he plan to gift his wife on their fourth wedding anniversary? The actor, who was the star-speaker at Mint Luxury Summit on Saturday evening, says, “We both endorse a lot of brands. But that doesn’t mean we’ll gift each other what we endorse. Actually, I can’t gift her anything branded, because whatever’s worth, is already part of her wardrobe, accessories and utilities.”

“In the last three years of our marriage, Aishwarya and I have not exchanged presents on our wedding anniversary. We, instead, believe in celebrating our day by just being together. That’s a good enough present, because we’re all leading busy lives. Finding time to spend with our loved ones, partners and parents has become an exercise, and time is the most valuable commodity.”

True, since Abhishek spends most of the year travelling for work to various countries. His wife flew to New Zealand last month to spend time with him and bring in his 36th birthday while he shot for Abbas-Mustan’s Players. “It was really sweet of her to have done that,” he smiles. “She made the day really special by just being there with me.”

However, Abhishek doesn’t wait for occasions to gift his father, Amitabh Bachchan. Recently, Abhishek gave him an iPad. “Pa’s really happy with the gift, he’s going through the manual to figure how it works,” says the actor-producer, whose Bbuddah – Hoga Tera Baap, starring his father, Raveena Tandon, Hema Malini and Sonu Sood, recently went on the floors.

“He prefers to know every detail of a gadget before he starts operating it. That’s something we have in common because I endorse a watch brand and I insisted on knowing how it works. The company officials took me to the manufacturing centre in Europe to get me acquainted with the brand.”

Abhishek says that his father was always ahead of his time as far as being technologically advanced is concerned. “Pa used to subscribe to international watch and gadget magazines, way back in the 1970s and ’80s. He would go through every detail,” recalls Abhishek. “And that habit continues to be part of his life even today.”
