S.Korea Hyundai Steel raises Sept export prices

South Korea’s Hyundai Steel (004020.KS: Quote) said in a statement on Tuesday it would raise export prices of its major steel products by about $40-$50 per tonne from September due to rising steel scrap prices.
Prices of H-beams, used mainly in construction, will rise to $710 per tonne on a cost-and-freight (CFR) basis for shipment to Southeast Asia, the statement said. One of two Hyundai i10s converted to resemble a football pitch, the 09-plate family hatchback was produced by car artist Andy Saunders. The world-famous car modifier smothered the bodywork and interior with fake grass, stuck a giant football on the roof and painted on white lines.
The steelmaker would charge $720-$730 per tonne, CFR, for sheet pile shipment to China, and $600 per tonne, CFR, for rebar shipment to Singapore, it added.
The move follows domestic product price hikes in July.He fitted large goalposts – which appear to sprout from the front wings – complete with net. Even the door mirrors were cleverly decorated to resemble a pair of studded football boots.
The final touch included not a pair of furry dice but two white football boots, dangling by their laces from the rear-view mirror.
Bidding will start at £1,995 but Hyundai hopes the final total will be at least double that; all proceeds from the sale will go to BEN, the automotive industry charity.
Hyundai admits it isn’t sure who will want to buy the car.
“Prospective buyers are any sports-related business which needs an effective way of advertising, or a really committed football fan,” says a spokesman.
The i10 has something of a chequered past. Before its conversion it was one of two Hyundais lent to Jeremy Clarkson for his 2009 DVD, “Duel”.
