Shooters fire blanks
Indian shooters flopped on a windy day at the Aoti Shooting range with the country’s first woman world champion Tejaswini Sawant, Gagan Narang and Vijay Kumar ending up way off target in their respective events at the Asian Games. Vijay could not sustain the form he showed yesterday in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol, finishing 17th in his pet event. Narang finished a lowly 24th with 587 points in the prone event, Tejaswini shot 588 to end up.
Big win in men’s hockey
Indian men’s hockey team blanked Hong Kong 7-0. Sandeep Singh converted two penalty corners (4th and 18th minutes) and Tushar Khandker (37th) scored from a variation.
Sasikiran is joint second
Indian Grandmaster Sasikiran Krishnan continued his unbeaten run with two wins and a draw to sit at joint second on 5.5 points along with top seed Le Quang Liem after the seventh round.
Tennis team bags bronze
India had to be content with the bronze medal as they went down 1-2 against Chinese Taipei in the men’s team tennis championship semi-final rubber. Somdev Devvarman, ranked 105th in the world, beat Taipei rival Ti Chen 6-2 7-6 (4).
