Bollywood sexy siren Mallika Sherawat’s brother Vikram Lamba was detained at the Mumbai airport for carrying foreign goods and foreign currency that valued around 6 lakhs. He was allegedly carrying branded accessories. He was booked under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and was questioned.

He was carrying goods above the permissible limits. Till the interrogation completes, he will be under the custody of the customs.

He landed in India from Dubai. In a span of one month, celebrities like Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba were detained at the Mumbai airport for carrying undeclared accessories.

Bold and beautiful Mallika Sherawat says most of her films are for adults and so she turned to television as it would help her connect with those below 18. She also feels strongly about providing a platform to talent from small towns.

Mallika is scorching the small screen as a judge on dance reality show Chak Dhoom Dhoom.

“TV has a huge reach and my films as it is are only for people above the age of 18. So I thought it’s a great opportunity. Who’s going to wait for them to turn 18 and

then watch my films?” said Mallika.

“And also why not try something different. I’ve always tried different things in my career. If everyone’s gone left, I’ve gone right. I’ve made very unusual choices and

some worked, some didn’t. But I’ve not followed a prescribed path. And similarly this time too,” said Mallika, who is a huge fan of Madhuri Dixit.

The show, which showcases dance groups from all over the world, went on air on Colors channel Friday.

“My life’s struggle has been the same since I had no film background and Bollywood’s system is very dynastic – people just want to promote their own people. So it was

very important for me that people from small towns get a platform to showcase their talent. I felt an emotional connect with the show,” said the actress.

“I feel I owe it to people from small towns because once upon a time I was one of them. Of course, I’m being paid very handsomely for this show, but that was not the deciding factor,” added the actor who herself hails from Rohtak, a small town in Haryana.

She also says she will be a little biased towards women contestants. “I’ll be a little biased towards females. I’m being honest enough to say that.”

The actress, known for her sensual roles in films like Khwahish, Murder and the recently released Hisss, is judging the show along with actor-comedian Jaaved

Jaaferi and ace choreographer Terence Lewis, known for his contemporary dance moves.

“I won’t judge the technical aspects of dance. For me, the entertainment factor and the X factor will work. The attitude, the expressions are what I’ll be concentrating

on.

“I had a lot of disagreements with Jaaved and Terrence because they go so deep in their judging. Both of them are brilliant dancers, but I don’t go into so many

technicalities and sometimes I even fight for the teams and argue that they should be given a chance,” she added.

Asked why she decided to take a plunge into television, the actress said: “For me, the most important thing for saying yes to this show was the format. These people go to small towns and audition and bring out talents from there.

On the film front, Mallika will be next seen in Double Dhamaal, the sequel to 2007 film Dhamaal.

Bollywood sex siren Mallika Sherawat has said that her movie Hiss was liked by the younger audiences. This movie was termed as the flop.

In an interview, Mallika was asked that did the debacle of Hisss prompt her to make this TV debut, the actress replied that “Hisss was liked by younger audiences.”

She said further, “If the 60 year old critics didn’t like it, what can I do! Woh picture buddhon ko pasand nahi aayi.”

The sex siren said, “I was offered various tv shows before but I didn’t find them interesting enough. I’ve reached a stage in my career where I am not doing tv just for the money!”

Talking about the TV show Chak Dhoom Dhoom, Mallika Sherawat said, “Team challenge is about providing platform to kids who are brilliant dancers and would want to pursue dance as a career. When I was young I didn’t get these opportunities.”

JAIPUR: Rajasthan University has cleared the way for Bollywood siren, Mallika Sherawat to appear at the inauguration of the office of the students union on Monday. However, she was not allowed to dance to the tunes of latest Bollywood songs.

The decision was taken by vice-chancellor, B L Sharma amid pressure from the students on Monday. On Sunday he had told TOI because of fear law and order situation going out of hand this programme will not take place on the campus. The V-C but he was not available for comment.

This decision comes as a disappointment for students who were keen to see the glam girl dance item numbers. In the evening, they again requested the administration to allow the actress to perform, but in vain.

Parveen Kaler, president of union of research scholar said, “We will try to follow the university order, but if case she willingly decides to dance, we should not be held responsible.” It is most likely she will display her dancing skills on the stage.

The organisers has left no stone unturned to publicise her appearance in the programme. The banners can be seen on key locations in the city besides pamphlets and SMSes are making the rounds among students. It is learnt that students have paid a hefty sum to the actress for her appearance.

“She’ll be given a guard of honour in traditional style at the airport. She will be staying in a five- star hotel,” said Kaler. All this has raised some serious questions as to how students will bear the financial burden of the programme. According to the sources, the organisers are spending around Rs 30 lakh for the event. They have made sitting arrangements for 5,000 students.

Mallika Sherawat’s latest stunt at publicity has backfired and she has ended up irking Bollywood’s superstar of the hour, Salman Khan.

The actress called Sallu a pussycat in a recent entry on her Twitter account. The brawny superstar, out to create a macho image since his action flick Dabangg became a superhit, is not too pleased with her choice of words.
Salman is a pussycat, don’t worry, it’s a good thing wrote Mallika, in reply to an entry by a fan.

He may not have bothered to reply in writing, but sources say Salman is not too pleased with the comment.

This could be the reason why Mallika has been swift to clarify her words. Pussycat is another way of saying he’s a sweetie. Calm down, people. Most of my tweets are jokey, yet people take them seriously lol, she wrote later.

Reportedly, Salman’s fans had started to heckle the actress for the comment.

Salman bhai isn’t bothered with such stunts but he’s definitely not happy with her words.How can you call a superstar a pussycat even on a lighter note? a source close to Salman said.

According to sources, the actor is displeased also because last year he had gone all out to facilitate Mallika’s participation as a guest on his game show, Dus Ka Dum . Industry sources insist Mallika’s clarification to Sallu could also be because she is trying to resurrect her career in Bollywood.

He has always been a powerful superstar. And after Dabangg’s success, every girl wants to work with him. Mallika can’t afford to keep Salman unhappy. She might even call him or try to explain her comment when she meets him, says an insider.

To make matters worse, Mallika has heaped praises on Sallu’s arch-rival Shah Rukh Khan, whom she referred to as the king of charisma. That’s not all. Hrithik Roshan, with whom Salman recently had a war of words over Guzaarish, has been described by her as talent plus beauty, lethal!. Such stunts are not new to Mallika, who has made more news with her antics than with her films.

Last year, she compared herself to Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe on Twitter. Reminiscing her initial days in the US, she wrote: It was a little scary and I was alone and virtually helpless, but you don’t become Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood by shaking in your boots. During her stay in LA, Mallika claimed she was close friends with Hollywood biggies such as Johnny Depp, Salma Hayek, Queen Latifah and Quentin Tarantino. Hayek later denied being friends with Mallika.

The actress also tried grabbing eyeballs by dressing outrageously at high-profile dos.

Her itsy-bitsy costume at the red carpet premiere of Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds was panned as one of the worst party attires ever by the Hollywood fashion police.

Recently, her much- hyped international film Hisss bombed all over. Her other film in Hollywood, Politics Of Love , is stuck for a while. In Bollywood, she has just one film in her kitty – Double Dhamaal , Indra Kumar’s sequel to his male- oriented hit of 2007, Dhamaal . On the small screen, Mallika is all set to judge Chak Dhoom Dhoom . Surely, Salman is one pussycat she shouldn’t have rubbed the wrong way.

Bollywood bombshell Mallika Sherawat, known for her bold persona both on screen and off it, locks lips with a snake in her upcoming film Hisss and says that it was her best kiss till date.

“I had to kiss a snake. It was a rainy scene and I had to shoot the sequence with the snake. And believe me that was my best on-screen kiss till date,” Mallika told PTI.

The actress essays the role of a nagin, (a snake woman) in Hisss that hit screens tomorrow.

“This film most certainly will be hotter and bolder than my previous films,” Mallika said, adding, audiences can expect more from Hisss as it “surpasses Murder and Khawish in terms of oomph.”

Directed by Jennifer Lynch, the film also features Irrfan Khan and Divya Dutta in key roles.

Mallika, who is busy promoting Hisss, admitted that, her brother objected to her nude scenes in the film. “I know what I am doing..It is my job after all,” she said.

The actress went on to say, “Hisss is the first nagin film after a long break of over 20 years. It is indeed the sexiest and also the scariest.

“My movie is quite different from the previous naagin movies. It is a modern day naagin film replete with special effects, sound and graphics. You can see the transformation from a snake into human and from human to a snake,” she said.

About her character, the actress said, “I play the role of a naagin, whose mate has been captured and she is out seeking revenge from the culprits.”

Mallika feels Hisss is going to be a hit abroad because of foreigner’s fascination with Indian mythology.

“I think the film will be a great hit abroad as ‘naagin’ is known to be the “fertility goddess” and people are very fascinated with the mythological stories from India,” she said.

The film releases in India this week and in the US in January!

PS: Producer says delay is because film needs more promotion in the west.
But Mallika Sherawat’s yearlong stay in LA was to do just that, wasn’t it?

Mallika Sherawat was parked in Los Angeles for over a year, presumably to promote her next film Hisss. But the film, which hits Indian screens this Friday (October 22), is not even releasing in America.

Directed by Jennifer Lynch, Hisss was to have a grand release across US theatres on October 22, along with the desi version but the actress and the producers aren’t talking about it. Vague reasons like “the producers feel that the film needs to be promoted more in Hollywood” and “there are other Hollywood films releasing in the same month and Hisss wouldn’t have got a proper theatrical release” are being floated.

Which raises the doubt if the film will have a straight-to-DVD release worldwide.

Building the film

Govind Menon, co-producer of Hisss, denies a DVD release in Hollywood, “We are not releasing it across USA now as we are building up the film a bit. The English version will release in January 2011. Many Hollywood films don’t release on the same day across the world. There is some serious promotional work left for us to do.”

He explains Mallika’s year-long stay in LA with “she was there but for pre-release promotional work. This way after the film releases in India and other countries in the world we can give better individual attention to Hisss for its Hollywood release and this will take almost three months.”

Release in phases

The film hits Indian screens in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu this week, while the Malayalam one will come the next week. Menon adds, “The international version with subtitles will also release in Malaysia, Australia, UK, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa the same week.

Phase 2 will see Hisss have a theatrical release in Hollywood. There has been no talk of a DVD release. We will also have the next release in East Asia in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and countries there.”

No fear of film getting stale through the piracy market bothers him. “Piracy is a problem in the US too but the mainstream American public won’t watch it without English subtitles. We’d rather do a good job correctly and release later.”
